First Encounter
Vanilla #6 - diner party
Luna's parents were having a dinner party. It was kind of pathetic in a way for her to watch. They were running around wanting to do this and that and everything had to be perfect. It seemed like the world would end if the dinner party was not absolutely amazing in every possible way. What annoyed her the most was the way they put up a fight when she tried to get Cat's parents over for the party. They just would not let it go that they did not want fake scientists spreading lies to their guests and other sort of insulting drabble. Yet after many hours of her insisting she would do something terrible if they did not comply with her wishes the Winter's had a very reluctant invitation to the party. Cat was even allowed to come which made Luna even happier that she could have some partner in crime when she decided to ruin the party. It seemed childish to hold such a grduge, she knew that, she was a senior in high school of course she knew better than that, but she also knew it was immature of her parents to ignore Cat as if she was not her best friend.
The Winter's arrived right on time and she knew her parents were not happy about that since everyone else decided to be fashionably late. The moment eyes met across rooms it was like fireworks and Luna was stuck watching the show.
"Hello Aaron, Lily." Cat's mother said before crossing and taking both of their hands. For a moment Luna was sure she saw her father recoile slightly at their touch.
"Curtis, Amanda, always a plessure to see you both." Her father returned and they went about the most painful small talk she ever head in her life. "How are you" this and "work is the same" that Luna was sure her head was going to explode if anything ever came up about the topics of Cat's parents work. "They study the make believe." Her mother said a mere hour before the Winter's were in her presense. "The paranormal is not a legitment study of science. Ghosts and goblins and magic it's all nonsense." She was grateful her mother got that out of her system before the Winter's arrived and that things could hopefully go at a socially smooth pace.
The other guests arrived and Luna found herself sitting out on the portch with Cat wanting to be anywhere but here. "I'm sorry about my parents; they just don't like the paranormal." Luna said as the two of them looked at the stars.
"I'm sure they have their reasons." Cat replied, "I'm sure there is something that makes them act that way. I don't hold it against them and neither do my parnets."
"I just wish they would be more open minded about all iof this stuff," she said, "I mean like it all too." Luna sighed and her friend looked at her.
"I'm sure you'll see eye to eye someday." The two of them sat outside in silence until something caught Luna's eye. Someone was walking down the street. It was a young man, maybe a year older than her at the most, dressed in all black. There was something long and thin hanging from his belt but in the darkness she could not see what it was. It almost looked like a sheath for a toy sword. When he walked in front of her house he glanced and they made eye contact. Even from the portch she could see his eyes were the deepest brown, his hair as black as his clothes and hanging long, bangs hanging in front of his eyes. He did not stop, however, he simply looked away and kept walking. Her eyes followed him until he vanished around a corner.
"Who was that?" She asked and her friend shrugged.
"I don't know; I've never seen him before," she replied but when Luna looked over at her friend she saw her looking up at the stars, smiling a bit.
"What are you smiling about?" Luna asked and Cat shook her head.
"Oh nothing. Just thinking about a happy ending."
