Fate
Vanilla #9 - my mother used to say
Luna was meeting Cat on the corner of Aspen and Lewis Street. It was their normal meet up whenever something would happen with Luna's parents. They would say something or some fight would happen and she would storm out of the house for a few hours. It was almost normal at this point. Yet each time when she got home her parents acted like she had been missing for days. There were hugs and apologies and somewhere in the back of her mind she forgave them every time for whatever happened. This time felt different as she stormed down the road angry as ever. Her parents had gone through her room for the first time and it felt like the ultimate violation of privacy. She just thanked whatever god that was up there that they did not read her journal; at least not this time. Then there was a fight and she told them how she felt so stuck in this town like she had no way out and was going no where.
As she rounded the corner she saw Cat standing there waiting for her. Her friend had her hands in her jacket pocket and smiled when they made eye contact. Luna walked up and the two of them hugged tightly. Her friend gave her a warm smile before they sat down on the curb. "So what happened this time?"
"They went through my room which somehow turned into a fight about being stuck," she replied and Cat gave her a strange look.
"Stuck? There is no way you're stuck," she said but Luna shook her head.
"No, there is something about this place that makes me feel like I'm going to marry young and pop out half a dozen kids before dying as no one. I just feel like that's where I'm going in this world," she said and her friend remained quiet for a moment.
"Luna, do you believe in fate?" Cat asked out of the blue and Luna gave her a strange look.
"You win the random question of the day award," she said but the other girl shook her head.
"Seriously, do you believe in fate? I swear this is relevent," she said and Luna nodded slightly.
"Yeah, I guess I do," she said and Cat looked at her smiling.
"My mom always says that everything happens for a reason. If something is meant to be it'll be. I think you need to trust that fate isn't going to make you some redneck with fifty kids living in a two bedroom house. Just need to have a little faith," she said and the other girl thought on it for a moment. Here was her best friend telling her to have faith when she did not believe in leaving things to chance as it was. There was fate and there was making your own destiny.
"I can't just roll with the punches; I need to have some control over whereI go in my life." Luna said and her friend laughed slightly.
"Then take control but no matter how you swing it my mom is right; things that are meant to happen will happen but I don't think your version of your life is your fate. I think you're going to do some big things," she said.
"Like take over the world, Pinky?" Cat laughed again but harder this time.
"No, but I think you're going to change it," she said.
"Oh? And what makes you think that?" Luna asked and her friend smiled.
"I have faith."
