An Angel in the Shadows I sit in the darkness of my garden The sky is a beautiful ebony color And the moon shines silver rays everywhere. I sit on a small bench at the back Under a weeping willow As I sit there I look up And the tree is crying an endless stream of stars. I feel like they are falling all over my face. There is barely a breeze but it whispers in my ear. The night warm but my soul is cold with grief That my mom had just died. Not a million suns could make me warm inside. Here in my garden I feel totally alone. Suddenly a small breeze blows And kisses my cheek. Then out of the shadows, came a young girl. I stand up and look at her. She is very pretty and in the moonlight She seems to glow. “Do not be afraid.” She said, “I wish only to talk. Normally I would sprint back to my home But there was something about her That made my heart tingle. We talked for a while and the more she talked The warmer my heart got. “I have to go now.” She said “Wait, before you go. What is you name?” I asked. “Just call me an angel from God” she said smiling. And she walked into the shadows. I just stood there for a moment smiling. The sky was still that beautiful ebony color And the moon still gave out silver rays And the weeping willow still cried stars But I was warm inside And I knew I would never be cold again.
