An Unknown Fire

Everyone is asleep
In a tiny house
With a family of four
The children
In their rooms
Dreaming of peaceful things
The parents
Sleeping with the TV
On again
No one knew what horror waited
In the kitchen below
A tiny flame caught a notebook
It burst into flames
The alarms
Have no batteries
Because the family thought
They would never have a fire
A hour later the house is ashes
And everyone who was there
Shook their heads
For there was only one survivor
The family dog
